EXTRUSION

The direct extrusion of aluminium using an extrusion press is a process where a hot cylindrical billet of aluminium is pushed through a shaped die, producing a section whose shape is defined by the shape of the die.

The enormous force necessary to compress and cast the aluminium billet is obtained using our five hydraulic presses, whose capacity ranges from 1,600 tonnes up to 4,500 tonnes (the other three presses have a capacity of 1,800, 2,200 and 2,800 respectively). These have been built using special materials which comply with the highly demanding mechanical and thermal requirements which enable the presses to bear their tough job.

The profiles which come out of the billet, which flows through the die at a temperature of about 500ºC , are laid out, cooled and stretched out on rollers, after which they go on to the saw where they are cut to the required length.

Later, the profiles, which have been automatically stacked onto containers, are put inside a computer-controlled tempering oven. Inside, using temperatures specific to each type of profile, the profiles are given the necessary hardness and resistance for their particular use.

Once this process is finished, the profile is ready to undergo mechanization and surface treatments.
